Awaji Island, Hyogo, Japan | cabin

Coastal cabin on Awaji Island with Seto Inland Sea views, merging SANU's minimal architecture with island nature.

About this stay

Perched on the hillside of Awaji Island with views stretching across Osaka Bay, this SANU coastal cabin blends the brand's signature minimal architecture with the salt-air freedoms of island living. The Seto Inland Sea shimmers in the distance while terraced citrus orchards scent the breeze — a sensory experience unlike any of SANU's inland locations. The carbon-neutral cabin offers the same workation-ready connectivity and architect-crafted comfort, now paired with sea kayaking, coastal cycling, and easy access to Awaji's celebrated gastronomy.

Our stay at SANU 2nd Home CURRENT Awajishima on Awaji Island truly embodies the description of a "guesthouse overlooking the ocean." Spending time gazing at the calm ocean before us was so relaxing, it instantly made us forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The building and furniture were tastefully designed, and the tranquil space blended seamlessly with nature, allowing us to relax. Awaji Island is also a treasure trove of ingredients, so buying fresh fish and vegetables from nearby farms and markets, then enjoying a barbecue or cooking in your cabin while enjoying a drink, is a fantastic way to spend the day. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, so you can expand your dining options even if you stay multiple nights. We stayed for two nights, but it was so comfortable that we wished we could have stayed longer. At night, the starry sky stretched out overhead, and during the day, we were soothed by the calm, majestic ocean views that are so characteristic of Awaji Island. It was such a luxurious two days. Throughout our stay, we were constantly impressed by how charming Awaji Island is. This is the perfect place for those who want to relax in nature. It was a wonderful stay that made me fall in love with Awaji Island even more.

This was my second time using the facility. This time, I stayed alone for a workation! Before going, I bought some local specialties and craft beer at the roadside station, and had a drink while the hot water was filling up in the semi-open-air bath! Then, I had a drink while soaking in the open-air bath! It was so comfortable that even though I had intended to stay on a workation, I ended up completely oversleeping and missing a meeting (lol).
