About this stay

Pines Cottage Yatsugatake brings the Finnish cabin tradition to the Japanese highlands. Two premium log houses built by Honka — the world's largest log home manufacturer — sit among the trees at the southern base of the Yatsugatake range. 'Kittila' embraces raw nature with a rustic-modern aesthetic; 'Tuusula' offers refined luxury with underfloor heating. Both feature wood-burning stoves, Marimekko and Iittala tableware, full kitchens, and private BBQ decks. One group per cabin per day ensures complete privacy.

This was our first time in the Yatsugatake Mountains. I was looking for a place that seemed like something out of a Moomin story, for my daughter who loves Moomin. Both the exterior and interior were beautifully maintained, and I could feel the owner's love for the building. This was my first experience with a HONKA log cabin, and it was cool during the day and warm at night, so we were able to stay comfortably without using the air conditioning (we stayed in early summer). I was also worried about insects since it's in the forest, but perhaps because the building is well-insulated, we didn't have to battle any insects inside. We woke up to the sound of birds chirping in the morning. We would definitely like to stay here again. P.S. My 3-year-old daughter was thrilled with the Moomin mug and fork.

It's a very beautiful and comfortable cottage. When you light a fire in the wood stove, it immediately catches fire and warms the whole room! It's a space that makes you want to visit regularly with your family.

This cottage just opened. It's a log cabin built by HONKA. The smell of wood is pleasant, and the surroundings are quiet and wonderful. I'd like to return soon.
